September's spectator sports
Get ready for some stunning action in the sky and on the sea this September as Jersey becomes the backdrop for some major events in the island's calendar. From yacht races at the Brewin Dolphin Jersey Regatta to aerobatics at Jersey's International Air Display, here are the events to keep an eye (and ear) out for.
The Brewin Dolphin Jersey Regatta 2012, 7-9th
Yachts will be out in force this weekend as St Aubin's bay turns into a fluttering array of sails for the star event in Jersey's racing calendar. Three days of competitive racing between catamarans, dinghies and day-boats will turn the island into a showpiece for some dramatic sailing and flying finishes.
Where: 7-9th September, St Aubin's Bay and around the island. For more information, see the Regatta's official website.
Don't forget: Your sunglasses, so you can keep an eye on the yachts in St Aubin's Bay through the September sunshine.
Stay: The Royal Yacht, with an easy stroll to Albert Pier for the best yacht spotting, and plenty of alfresco terraces for catching up on the après-race atmosphere.

Jersey International Air Display, 13th September
This ear-splittingly exciting free event is a highlight of the island's calendar and promises aerobatics, high adrenaline air displays and fly-pasts from a whole range of iconic aircraft. Highlights this year should be the Red Arrows, a historic B-52 flight and the tiny record-breaking Cri-Cri plane, which can reach speeds of an incredible 176 mph with its electric zero carbon emission engine.
Where: St Aubin's Bay, Thursday 13th September 1pm-5pm.
Don't forget: your camera for the chance to snap iconic air displays from the Red Arrows right over the bay.
Stay: Grand Jersey's plum spot on the bay will put you at the centre of the action with fly-pasts right over the terrace. Not so keen on the noise? Hotel de France's picture windows will put you in the perfect spectator spot, and if it all gets too much, you can retreat to the Ayush spa for some blissfully quiet recuperation.
