Seafood (and eat it): Meet the Producer


We're all locavores these days, and with so much amazing Jersey produce on our (figurative) doorstep, it makes sense to find out where our meals come from. The Atlantic Hotel has come up with a tasty way of taking the field to fork journey, giving you a real flavour of local produce.

Their 'meet the producer' lunches are a chance to meet Sean Faulkner from Faulkner Fisheries, suppliers of local lobster and crab to many of the island's restaurants to find out what makes our seafood special.

Lunch begins with a trip to Faulkner Fisheries' headquarters at the old gun emplacement at L'Etacq, its concrete-walled bunkers now converted to house viviers full of live lobsters, crabs and molluscs. Owner Sean Faulkner collected seafood in the bay when he was a child, and if you eat crab or lobster in a local restaurant, there's a good chance it will have come from Faulkner Fisheries. Sean prides himself in being able to get a lobster up to Ocean Restaurant in eight minutes which has to be one of the freshest ways to eat local seafood.

After meeting Sean and learning about lobster (did you know lobsters are either left-handed or right-handed?), it's back to The Atlantic Hotel for a three-course lunch created by Executive Head Chef Mark Jordan in keeping with the seafood theme. Head Sommelier, Sergio dos Santos will have selected some interesting wines to accompany your meal. After coffee and petit fours, feel free to stroll in The Atlantic Hotel's grounds and enjoy the ocean view.
