Michelin Star Awards: The Reactions
What a week for foodies! First the AA rosette announcements and then the Michelin Guide lifted the lid on their notoriously secret Michelin star awards with a leak of the 2013 results on their website a whole seven days ahead of schedule. The news whipped the world of fine dining into a frenzy as chefs and restauranteurs raced to find out whether their restaurants had held onto their prestigious stars.
In Jersey, the island's three Michelin-starred restaurants,
Bohemia, Ocean at The Atlantic Hotel and Tassili at Grand Jersey
all retained their stars in the 2013 Michelin Guide with Ocean chef
Mark Jordan receiving an extra accolade - a brand new Bib Gourmand
for his newly-opened Mark Jordan at the Beach restaurant. Read on
for the restaurant reactions.
Bohemia owner Lawrence Huggler said it was
'incredible news' and added: 'I am so proud of the entire brigade
led by Chef Shaun Rankin for their continued hard work and
dedication to making Bohemia one of the finest restaurants in the
country. To achieve the very high standards set by the
Michelin inspectors year after year is no mean feat and a huge
thank you must also go to the island's top suppliers who we work so
closely with to ensure the very best produce is served at our
Ocean Restaurant at The Atlantic Hotel
At Jersey's Atlantic Hotel champagne was flowing with the news not only that Ocean had retained its Michelin star for the seventh consecutive year, but also that Ocean's sister restaurant, Mark Jordan at the Beach had been awarded a Bib Gourmand rating for 'good cuisine at a reasonable price'. They said: 'It was always our ambition for Mark Jordan at the Beach to achieve a Bib Gourmand and to do so after being open for just one year is quite incredible. We are so proud that the Michelin inspectors have chosen our restaurant as one of their very favourites. This is some achievement.'
Tassili at Grand Jersey
It's been quite a year for Tassili chef Richard Allen. After Tassili was awarded a Michelin star last year, the talented chef was mentioned in the Debrett's 2012 'People of Today' Guide and was named Craft Guild of Chefs 'Restaurant Chef of the Year' in June of this year. Richard said: 'I'm over the moon with the announcement, especially for the younger chefs that helped achieve the star with me. Retaining our star is not only great for us here at Grand Jersey but it is great for the island and tourism industry. I would also like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone that has supported Tassili, without your support this wouldn't have been possible.'
