Jersey has once again been recognised as a destination for great food, with plaudits from both the 2015 AA Restaurant Guide and Michelin Guide.

The AA guide for 2015 features 18 of Jersey's restaurants, and the total number of AA Rosettes awarded to Jersey restaurants has risen from 32 in 2013 and 35 in 2014 to 37 in the 2015 edition.

Of the 37 AA Rosettes won by Jersey hotels, we are delighted that a total of 20 were awarded to establishments owned by members and partners of Luxury Jersey Hotels.

Jersey's four AA Rosette restaurants

Awarded only to the top restaurants in the UK, where the cooking demands national recognition. These restaurants exhibit intense ambition, a passion for excellence, superb technical skills, and remarkable consistency. They will combine appreciation of culinary traditions with a passionate desire for further exploration and improvement.

There are only 35 restaurants in Great Britain and Ireland to have been awarded four AA Rosettes, and Jersey has two:

Jersey's three AA Rosette restaurants

Awarded to outstanding restaurants that achieve standards that demand recognition well beyond their local area. The cooking is underpinned by the selection and sympathetic treatment of the highest quality ingredients. Timing, seasoning and the judgement of flavour combinations will consistently be excellent. In his first full year of opening, chef and owner Shaun Rankin has been awarded three AA Rosettes and retained the Michelin star that he was awarded just four months after opening.

Ormer was one of the stars of the show at the AA awards, being shortlisted for the prestigious AA Food Service Award, which acknowledges the vital role played by service teams. The award is given for the consistent delivery of excellent standards of service and hospitality; technical service skills; and a clear commitment to staff training.

As well as looking after Ocean Restaurant at the Atlantic Hotel, Mark Jordan runs the eponymous beachside restaurant which combines great food and atmosphere. In addition to two AA Rosettes, Mark Jordan at the Beach has gained a Michelin Bib Gourmand, recognising good food at moderate prices.

About AA Rosettes

In 1908, due to the difficulty many motorists were having finding reasonable meals and accommodation while on the road, a scheme was launched to introduce 'about one thousand of the leading hotels' in the AA Members' Handbook. The hotel section evolved to include restaurants, and rosettes were added to the 1956 AA Members' Handbook, reflecting the emergence of British hotel cooking after 15 years of rationing.

The first AA Guide to Hotels and Restaurants was published in 1967, providing detailed descriptions of each establishment and one year later, the AA introduced its restaurant inspection scheme.

Much has changed since the AA began in 1908 yet AA Hotel Services has become a byword for industry standards, quality and service. 

The AA rosettes are awarded following at least one unannounced visit by the AA Hotel and Restaurant inspectors, who assess restaurants on the basis of the entire meal, including ancillary items. Establishments must demonstrate that they serve consistently good quality ingredients cooked with care and understanding to be in with a chance of receiving a coveted rosette award.
