A year of giving at Hand Picked Hotels
Two of Jersey’s top hotels will be helping more babies get the best start in life this year along with helping people of all ages protect themselves from the harmful effects of the sun.
The AA Five Star Grand Jersey Hotel & Spa and the AA Four Red Star L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa have made the Special Baby Care Baby Unit and the Donna Annand Melanoma Charity their charities of choice again for 2019.
Last year they helped raise thousands for both with a full fundraising calendar that included a Mad Hatter’s tea party, relaxing hand massages for new mums in SCBU on Mother’s Day and plenty of festive fundraising fun.
And the giving didn’t stop there….
L’Horizon had the real ‘scoop’ on plastic pollution, providing free ice creams to everyone who helped clean up the beach in the summer and hosted a mole clinic for DAMC. Meanwhile the charity’s mascot, Alan the Mole popped up bringing the fun factor to the hotel’s Terrace as well as a serious message about staying safe in the sun as he handed out some free sunscreen to guests.
Grand Jersey treated SCBU nurses to a special afternoon tea, while L’Horizon hosted a ‘pink’ inspired afternoon tea every weekend during October and raised £1200 for After Breast Cancer (ABC) Support Group.
The two hotels ended the year supporting Jersey’s homeless for the fifth year running when their chefs rustled up some delicious warming soup for the Shelter Trust’s annual Soup Kitchen in the Royal Square.
They also supported the Island’s elderly, baking some festive goodies for the Age Concern Operation Hamper appeal.
Staff then donned their silliest Santa sweaters and best festive knits and donated £2 each to raise money for Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day, helping bring essential food, healthcare, education, and protection to millions of children around the world who are missing out.
Commenting on all the fundraising, Simon Miller, General Manager of Hand Picked Hotels Jersey said, “We had a fantastic year of fundraising in 2018 and are delighted to be continuing our support for both the Special Care Baby Unit and the Donna Annand Melanoma Charity in 2019.”
“We’ve got some great ideas up our sleeves and are very grateful to all our guests who support us and these fantastic local charities.”
