Overview

Chic and sophisticated Restaurant Sirocco provides an experience for all your senses.

Found on the first floor of The Royal Yacht, Sirocco is a highly contemporary restaurant with an oceanic themed dining room and direct view of the chefs preparing delicious dishes.

Balcony tables get the last of the evening sun as you survey the lively square below, with yachts in the marina and a castle in the distance. You will be brought blankets so you can stay outside and finish your dinner long after the sun's gone down.

This sophisticated and fun Three AA Rosette restaurant offers the perfect setting for a relaxed meal with family and friends or an informal business dinner. The restaurant is light and fresh with glass doors leading to a terrace that overlooks the glittering marina and beyond.

Head Chef, Steve Walker, describes the dishes as creative British cuisine, perfected with modern techniques and finished with flair. An element of delightful surprise is added to every dish as diners enjoy taste combinations that excite the palate, a true mix of style and substance. A seasonal a la carte menu is available daily offering the perfect balance of the freshest local ingredients and more exotic ingredients from farther afield. Designed with the guest in mind, chef offers a three course table d’hôte menu presenting even more choice for discerning diners.

Guests of Sirocco can observe their exceptional meal as it is masterfully created by the chefs and served with the perfect amount of attentiveness from the knowledgeable restaurant team. A friendly and understated manner of serving allows guests to relax and truly enjoy their good company and soak in the atmosphere.

Tips from the sommelier on perfect wine pairings complete the Sirocco experience. Guests are also welcomed to visit The Cellar for their own personal wine tasting experience.

Restaurant review

Dress up for dinner, but don't stress about a stuffy atmosphere. At Sirocco, inventive cuisine is served up with all the style of fine dining but none of the fuss.

Alfresco table on the balcony with the setting sun in the distance, or a seat in the smart restaurant? Tough choice. In the end we opted to enjoy the evening air for a little longer on the terrace as the infectious buzz of conversion drifted up from Café Zephyr. The view's great - straight out across Weighbridge square to the harbour. You can even see Elizabeth Castle, and some clever design has meant that the hotel's perfectly angled to soak up the last of the sun's rays.

Warm breads and amuse-bouches arrive at your table - all the fine dining touches everyone loves, served in a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. If this is the gourmet revolution then Sirocco's firmly on board. The wine list is extensive, as you'd expect from a hotel of this calibre, and the sommelier knows his wines, so expect a few new discoveries (the Chilean chardonnay is particularly good). The menu is fun and inventive; dishes like scallops and slow-braised pork belly with vanilla cider tickled our tastebuds, and ballotine foie gras with golden raisin purée and cashew nut brittle and sour plum jelly was delicious - an explosion of flavours.

And if you really want to get things hotted up, order the flambé. Steak cooked with a flourish in front of you - it's like watching your very own episode of TV's Masterchef, except that you get to eat the result. We also tried the venison and chocolate, which at Sirocco comes accompanied with blackberries. Chef Steve Walker is a whizz at whipping up adventurous flavour combinations and gourmets won't be disappointed. The dessert menu is just as indulgent with treats galore for chocoholics and those of us with a sweet tooth. And as Sirocco's terrace turns even more romantic with inky blue skies and twinkling lanterns on every table, they'll bring you blankets so you can stay outside with your coffee and petit fours. The only thing that'll convince you to leave? The knowledge that your comfortable bed is just a lift-ride away…

Chef

With a start in professional cooking at the age of 16, Steve Walker says it was either "the kitchen or the army". Now heading up Sirocco, he's glad he chose chef's whites and says there's nowhere better than his busy kitchen.
