Turning Japanese...

Chicken yakitori and a chilled beer. It's a match made in heaven - particularly when it's served on Café Zephyr's sunny terrace. A few Japanese dishes are the latest addition to Café Zephyr's fusion menu - chef Inaka Weerasinghe explains why noodles are so now.

'There's not too many places in Jersey that do Japanese hot food! We tried the yakitori out as special dishes, and it turned out to be so popular, I've added it to the main menu.' Along with Chicken Yakitori, there's also Teriyaki salmon served with noodles.

Why's it so popular? 'It's quick to prepare which means that you can enjoy freshly cooked, piping hot food very quickly, which is important if you're only planning a quick lunch stop. The new Japanese dishes are full of flavour, but still very light, so it's a healthier way of eating too. We've tweaked many of our dishes to make them lighter, so for example we'll serve noodles with fish now instead of mash or starchy pasta.  It's the way people are eating now - they want light, healthy food they can eat outside on our terrace with a few drinks.'

Inaka and his team are experts in creating easy to eat, drink-friendly dishes. Take their afternoon tapas menu, served from 3-6pm, where you can choose a selection of tapas in a bento box to graze on with a drink or two. More sweet than savoury? No problem, Café Zephyr also does a chocolate fondue for two, with fruit dippers served with melted chocolate….
