Jersey could have Britain's restaurant of the year
Shaun with his team in the Ormer kitchen
Did you know that Jersey has the highest number of Michelin-starred restaurants per square mile outside London? The island may be small, but that statistic is an indication of just how good fine dining in Jersey can be.
One of the restaurants that shines is Ormer, which has had been a stellar first year. Having been awarded a Michelin star and 3 AA Rosettes, it has become the only restaurant outside London to have made the shortlist for the best newcomer category in the prestigious Food & Travel Reader Awards.
In addition, Chef Proprietor Shaun Rankin has been nominated for chef of the year in the same awards. He joins a prestigious shortlist that includes Jason Atherton, Angela Hartnett, Tom Kerridge, Simon Rogan, Ben Tish, Nathan Outlaw and Paul Ainsworth.
A fantastic first year
Shaun said: 'We are thrilled to be on the shortlist in two categories voted for by the public. The awards are held in high regard and it would be amazing for Ormer and Jersey to be honoured in this way.
'Jersey has the highest number of Michelin star restaurants per square mile outside of London and these award nominations are further proof of Jersey's status as a leading destination of gastronomy. I also feel incredibly privileged to have made the shortlist for chef of the year amongst such prestigious company.'
