Overview
With its floor to ceiling windows overlooking the harbour, the contemporary Restaurant Sirocco is an indulgent location to enjoy fresh and innovative cuisine with a modern twist.
Superb dining with a vista to match, sophisticated Sirocco is sleek enough for corporate functions as well as intimate dinners a deux. The restaurant's alfresco balcony tables are perfect for supper in the evening sun, and inside, the dark wood tables and statement 'chandelier' make an elegant backdrop to showcase the restaurant's top seasonal produce, cooked with flair and imagination by Head Chef Steve Walker and his team.

Review
Dress up for dinner, but don't stress about a stuffy atmosphere. Our reviewer reports that at Sirocco, inventive cuisine is served up with all the style of fine dining but none of the fuss.
Alfresco table on the balcony with the setting sun in the distance, or a seat in the smart restaurant? Tough choice. In the end we opted to enjoy the evening air for a little longer on the terrace as the infectious buzz of conversion drifted up from Café Zephyr. The view's great - straight out across Weighbridge square to the harbour. You can even see Elizabeth Castle, and some clever design has meant that the hotel's perfectly angled to soak up the last of the sun's rays.
Warm breads and amuse-bouches arrive at your table - all the fine dining touches everyone loves, served in a relaxed, laid-back atmosphere. If this is the gourmet revolution then Sirocco's firmly on board. The wine list is extensive, as you'd expect from a hotel of this calibre, and the sommelier knows his wines, so expect a few new discoveries (the Chilean chardonnay is particularly good). The menu is fun and inventive; dishes like scallops and slow-braised pork belly with vanilla cider tickled our tastebuds, and ballotine foie gras with golden raisin purée and cashew nut brittle and sour plum jelly was delicious - an explosion of flavours.
And if you really want to get things hotted up, order the flambé. Steak cooked with a flourish in front of you - it's like watching your very own episode of TV's Masterchef, except that you get to eat the result. We also tried the venison and chocolate, which at Sirocco comes accompanied with blackberries. Chef Steve Walker is a whizz at whipping up adventurous flavour combinations and gourmets won't be disappointed. The dessert menu is just as indulgent with treats galore for chocoholics and those of us with a sweet tooth. And as Sirocco's terrace turns even more romantic with inky blue skies and twinkling lanterns on every table, they'll bring you blankets so you can stay outside with your coffee and petit fours. The only thing that'll convince you to leave? The knowledge that your comfortable bed is just a lift-ride away…

Chef Interview
Steve Walker, Head Chef, Sirocco
With a start in professional cooking at the age of 16, Steve says it was either 'the kitchen or the army'. Now heading up Sirocco, he's glad he chose chef's whites and says there's nowhere better than his busy kitchen.
Best time of the
day? Waking up. I love the start of the day, you
never know what's going to happen!
What's the phrase you are most likely to be heard
saying? 'Did you know…' It normally turns into a
long food-related anecdote.
Favourite flavour? Vanilla
Favourite item of local produce? Either local bass
or Jersey crab. They're both outstanding and - supply permitting -
they're never off the menu.
What's your favourite thing about Jersey? In the
winter it's the colours. Corbiere lighthouse on a blustery day -
the contrast of sea and sky is just stunning.
What's the cooking method you enjoy most?
Pan-frying and sautéing. As a chef I like to see everything I'm
cooking. A classic example of that is our steak flambé, it's really
popular, and you watch it cooked in front of you.
How do you unwind? Going to the gym, spending time
with my girlfriend - and food.
Your ultimate food and wine pairing? A
Montepulciano d'Abruzzo and a steak Rossini.
Favourite food memory? My mum's chilli pasta pie.
Mmm.
Your favourite location on the island? My kitchen
at the Royal Yacht. I spend 12 hours here every day, and I still
love it!
Where do you go to eat when you're off duty? Bento
Sushi and the Oyster Box on St Brelade's Bay.
Your 'end of the shift' snack? Thickly-sliced
bread, ham and hummus. And a
beer!
